About the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Integrative Human Health (IHH) program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a wide array of health-related careers. Students can customize their coursework to align with their specific interests and career aspirations, such as clinical practice, public health, health education, healthcare administration, biomedical research, and academia. 

The IHH program integrates various disciplines, including biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, psychology, and public health, to provide a broad health-related education. Opportunities for experiential learning, internships, and research, allow students to gain valuable experience and apply their knowledge in realistic settings.

Graduates of this program will be well-prepared for various roles in the healthcare sector, including direct entry careers such as community health work, health education, health insurance, health informatics, pharmaceutical and medical equipment sales, physiology research, public health, health education or healthcare marketing. 

For careers requiring further health professional education, IHH coursework can be tailored to meet admission requirements for occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, physician assistant, and medical school. Additionally, students can complete coursework to pursue degrees in graduate programs, such as physiology, public health, epidemiology, health administration, and health policy.

Degree Requirements


  • Minimum credits to graduate: 120
  • Minimum GPA to graduate: 2.0
  • Minimum grade in all Integrative Human Health (IHH) courses: C-
  • Complete all General Education credits
  • Complete all Integrative Human Health major core credits
  • Complete 12-15 credit hours of Integrative Human Health (IHH) electives (at least 6 credits must be at 30000 level or higher)
  • Remaining credits can be free electives to reach 120 minimum credits
  • Experiential Learning Requirement (EL): One EL course required
  • Civics Literacy Requirement
  • CES Exit Survey 

    The College of Engineering and Sciences requires that all graduating students complete a student outcomes and career preparation survey. The survey helps the University meet state reporting requirements and understand the career outcomes of our graduates. All information is reported in aggregate and helps improve programs and career preparation for future students. 

    Students will gain access to the survey after submitting the Application to Graduate with the Office of the Registrar.

  • Free electives can fulfill specific prerequisite coursework for admission to health professional and graduate school programs.
  • Students should work in consultation with IHH program faculty and their academic advisor to identify appropriate courses to meet their career goals.

Civics Literacy Proficiency


The Civics Literacy Proficiency activities are designed to develop civic knowledge of Purdue Northwest students in an effort to graduate a more informed citizenry.

Students will complete the Proficiency by passing a test of civic knowledge, and completing one of three paths:

  • Attending six approved civics-related events and completing an assessment for each; or
  • Completing 12 podcasts created by the Purdue Center for C-SPAN Scholarship and Engagement that use C-SPAN material and completing an assessment for each; or
  • Earning a passing grade for one of the approved courses (or transferring in approved AP or departmental credit in lieu of taking a course)
