Purdue University Northwest’s College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences (CHESS) offers more than 30 degree programs that cultivate a deep understanding of culture and society. Our programs prepare students for careers and a fulfilling life marked by creativity, community engagement, and ethical leadership. As a CHESS student, you will work alongside outstanding educators who are actively engaged in research and scholarship within their fields.
Through our innovative and experiential curriculum, we challenge, inspire, and motivate students to think critically and creatively, develop strong analytical skills, and understand multiple perspectives. Our students graduate as informed, responsible, and global citizens equipped to address the challenges facing Northwest Indiana and society.
Home to academic research centers like the Institute for Social and Policy Research and the Center for Global Studies, CHESS provides unique educational opportunities beyond the classroom. Our study abroad programs allow students to immerse themselves in other cultures, broadening their global perspectives and experiences. Additionally, CHESS houses the Center for Justice and Post-Exoneration Assistance (CJPA), which works to identify and correct miscarriages of justice while supporting those wrongfully convicted.
CHESS has recently launched a new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program designed to train scholars and practitioners in clinical assessment, diagnosis, and intervention services through a state-of-the-art curriculum combining mental health issues, technological advances, and clinical best practices. We also have undergraduate and graduate programs in Social Work and graduate programs in Couple and Family Counseling and Counselor Education.
Explore the opportunities within CHESS and take the next step in your academic journey. Apply today and be part of a community that shapes the future.
