BIOL 57110 - Advanced Cell Biology Prerequisite(s): BIOL 24300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- AND BIOL 24400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D-
Credit Hours: 3.00. In this lecture only course, we will explore in-depth cell structure and function. Topics covered include: protein structure; methods used to explore molecular mechanisms and visualize cell structures; membrane structure and transport; electrical properties of membranes; protein sorting and trafficking; structure and function of the cytoskeleton; cell signaling and communication; apoptosis, the cell cycle and how it is controlled; and cancer. Primary research studies will be incorporated to reinforce lecture topics. Prerequisites are BIOL 24300 Cell Biology and BIOL 24400 Genetics, or permission of instructor.
