The CHESS College Core requires 36 credits of coursework*.  Students must complete 12 credits (4 semesters) of a single Modern Language**, and 24 credits of coursework in the following themes:
	- Gender Issues (3 credits)
 
	- Global Cultures (3 credits)
 
	- Individual and Society (3 credits)
 
	- Literature and the Arts (3 credits)
 
	- Racial and Ethnic Diversity (3 credits)
 
	- Social Ethics (3 credits)
 
	- U.S. Traditions (3 credits)
 
	- Western Heritage (3 credits)
 
Students must take one course from the following lists in each theme.
*Does not apply to the BLS program or BA degrees issued by the School of Education and Counseling
