About the Certificate
The 18-credit hour Expressive Arts in Counseling certificate is designed for mental health professionals, school counselors, human services professionals and others who have a background in therapeutic work. Open to those who hold, or are working towards, a graduate or undergraduate degree in counseling or another therapeutic field, such as social work, this program of study allows you to re-energize the work you do with others. You will explore the use of visual art, dramatic art, dance/movement, music and the written word in your coursework and experiences learning how to incorporate these techniques into your clinical work with individuals and groups.
This certificate is not intended for those who require full professional training for licensure as an Expressive Arts Therapist and is not CACREP accredited. This certificate provides training for use of expressive arts as a supplement to professional activities.
Program Requirements
This program requires 18 credit hours. A maximum of 12 credits may also be used toward the MS Ed program in Mental Health Counseling.
Note
Special considerations
- Grades of B or better are required for all courses in the certificate program.
- Up to 6 hours of graduate credit may be transferred into the certificate program, at the discretion of the School of Education and Counseling. Courses eligible for transfer must have a grade of B or better, and cannot have been used toward another degree.
- Certificate must be completed within 3 years.
