Admission Requirements

Students will be admitted to the Computer Science Bachelor’s program under the current guidelines for admitting undergraduate students. All incoming students will be informed of the option for the combined degree program. Undergraduate students would be expected to maintain a GPA of 3.20/4.0 minimum for their first 90 undergraduate credits and a grade of B or higher in all major core courses in order to be considered for participation in the combined program.

Students would be expected to apply for the graduate program (MS in CS) at the end of their junior year, and would be expected to complete the application process for the MS degree and the GS Form 27, and would be admitted to the graduate program as a second classification at the start of year 4 (senior year).  The students would have a primary classification of Undergraduate and a secondary classification of graduate.  Once the student has completed the Bachelor’s degree requirements, the graduate admission would become a first priority (final year of the 5 year combined degree program) upon award of the undergraduate degree.

Degree Requirements

During the first year of the dual-degree program (Senior year, after admission to the combined degree program), students may take 9 graduate credit hours as undergraduates, which will be used as electives to satisfy the required 120 credit hours of the undergraduate degree and 9 of the required 30 credit hours of the graduate degree. During their fifth year, students have two options for course scheduling. They can choose to take 4 courses (12 credit hours) in one semester and 3 courses (9 credit hours) in another semester. This option entails a slightly elevated course load (an additional course in one of the two final semesters) compared to what is typical for graduate students pursuing an MS degree. Alternatively, they can opt for 3 courses in both semesters and supplement their studies with one independent study during the summer or a course in the following year.

Students would participate in the 4+1 program by successfully completing their senior year with a GPA of 3.2 and receiving a grade of B or higher in each of their undergraduate core courses and the graduate-level courses completed during their senior year.
