COM 39400 - Business Communication


Credit hours: 1.00 to 3.00.  In business, ideas must be communicated clearly, quickly, and accurately. The Business Communication course is designed to provide students with the required tools to communicate in an effective and concise manner in a business context. We will engage in written and oral communication. The written communication will be in the form of memos, proposals, emails, and letters for different audiences using hypothetical situations. The oral communication will develop both formal and informal presentations skills needed to deliver an effective and persuasive point of view in hypothetical situations. Successful communicators must be able to write, present, and think critically. 
Course Learning Outcomes
1.  Prepare emails, letters, proposals, reports etc. appropriate in a business context. 2.  Deliver a persuasive oral presentation addressing a business problem. 3.  Use PowerPoint or other visual aids as a means to enhance a business presentation. 4.  Perform research using appropriate resources and effectively use data in their written work or presentations to support a position and inform. 5.  Identify the professional uses of technology in business communication. 6.  Demonstrate competency in oral and interpersonal communication, including one-on-one, small group, team, and public presentations.
