IET 37801 - Quality Systems And Improvement

Credit Hours: 3.00. Quality practices and philosophies will be explored in order to examine methods for determining customer needs and wants and interpreting these into design. The course bridges quantitative, behavioral, and strategic concepts for designing organizations to be dynamic, integrated systems whose outputs are monitored for quality and continuously improved. Typically offered Fall Spring.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Define the terms associated with quality, the various quality dimensions and quality perspectives. 2. Describe the core concepts made by the major contributors to the practice of quality as it has evolved. 3. Explain how ethics and quality contribute to better business results. 4. Apply the core concepts of quality in continuous improvement (such as benchmarking, gap analysis, defining the voice of the customer and voice of the process, teamwork, etc.). 5. Utilize basic quality tools (such as process maps, check sheets, scatter diagrams, Pareto charts, cause-and-effect diagrams, value stream analysis, etc.). 6. Utilize statistical methods for quality and process improvement (such as control charts, DOE, QFD, FMEA, etc.). 7. Explain the use of quality methodologies (such as Six Sigma Management and Lean tools) in business.
