Credit Hours: 3.00. An introduction to the industry practices of and for creative writers. Course will include introduction to various careers in and elements of publishing. Students will edit, design, and produce a student journal or similar publication. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Develop a working knowledge of a variety of careers in and related to creative writing.
2. Write pieces designed for a variety of audiences, formats, and media, including traditional and digital media.
3. Perform basic proofreading and copy editing of documents.
4. Gain an understanding of the structures for submitting and publishing creative work through a variety of outlets, such as magazines, journals, web publications, small presses, and large publishing houses.
5. Participate in the full editorial process for one or more student publications, including reading and selection of pieces, proofreading, writing copy, and layout and design.
