HONR 21100 - Honors Cohort III Prerequisite(s): HONR 11100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR ENGL 10400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C-
Credit Hours: 3.00. Required for first-semester sophomores in the Honors College. Continuation of academic and career planning, undergraduate research, leadership, and critical thinking. Also covers directed writing with emphasis on the logical and rhetorical problems involved in writing discursive essays. Permission of department required. General Education: English Composition Course Learning Outcomes By the end of the course, each student will have
1) Made progress toward completing their academic and career plans.
2) Explored the idea of leadership in a complex and rigorous way.
3) Explored undergraduate research opportunities.
4) Made progress toward becoming an independent and critical thinker, demonstrating the ability to use knowledge and logic when discussing an issue or an idea, while considering the consequences of their idea, for themselves, for others, and for society.
5) Investigated how scholars think about problems, formulate hypotheses, research those problems, and draw conclusions about them.
6) Enhanced their ability to analyze and synthesize a broad range of material
7) Improved their written communication skills, through practice and reflection in the following areas identified by the Council of Writing Program Administrators in the current WPA Outcomes Statement for First-Year Composition (http://wpacouncil.org/positions/outcomes.html):
a. Rhetorical knowledge
b. Critical thinking through reading and composing
c. Composing processes
d. Knowledge of conventions
