CE 33400 - Structural Analysis I

Prerequisite(s): CE 27300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D-

Credit Hours: 3.00. Loads, shear, moment, and deflected shape diagrams for beams and framed structures. Approximate methods. Calculations of deformations. Using flexibility methods to analyze frames and continuous beams. Using moment distribution and stiffness methods to analyze continuous beams and braced frames. Influence lines for determinate and indeterminate beams using Muller-Breslau principle. Computer applications to analyze beams and frames.. Typically offered Fall Spring.
Course Learning Outcomes
CE 33400 Course Objectives: ABET learning outcome: Outcome 1: An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. (Level of contribution: 3 - substantial) By the end of the course each student should be able to: 1. Analyze trusses by the method of joints and by the method of sections. 2. Analyze beam structures in two dimensional space. 3. Analyze frame structures in two dimensional space. 4. Calculate deflections in trusses, beams, and frame structures. 5. Analyze statically indeterminate structures using force methods. 6. Analyze beams and frames using displacement methods (slope deflection method and moment distribution method). 7. Draw influence lines for statically determinate trusses and beams. 8. Draw influence lines for statically indeterminate structures.
