STAT 33001 - Biostatistics


Prerequisite(s): MA 15300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR APPL FOR MIN. SCORE OF 065 OR S12 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 590 OR A02 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 29

Credit Hours: 3.00. This course covers the fundamental concepts of statistical methods and their application to biology. The following topics will be included: experimental and sampling designs; descriptive statistics; basic probability or probability distribution; test of hypothesis; one-way analysis of variance; linear regression. Emphasis will be placed on the collection, organization, analysis and interpretation of data from biological experiments and observations. Typically offered Spring.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Display given data by creating appropriate charts, tables, graphs, etc.2. Determine all pertinent measures for a given data set.3. Determine the correct probability or probability distribution function.4. Apply central limit theorem.5. Determine a confidence interval for population parameters.6. Perform hypothesis testing for unknown population parameters.7. Fit a linear regression model and explore it for prediction and decision making.
