EDCI 34400 - Strategies Of Mathematics Instruction In Senior High, Junior High And Middle Schools


Prerequisite(s): EDCI 35500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND EDPS 37000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C

Credit Hours: 4.00. Acquaints students with developmentally appropriate content, materials, and methods for teaching mathematics in the high school, junior high and middle school. Includes an overview of the role of the high school, junior high and middle school math teacher today, the high school, junior high and middle school philosophy, use of technology, and planning of instructional units are included. Field experiences are integrated with classroom instruction. Typically offered Fall.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Understanding of how cognitive, affective, and physiological factors impact secondary students learning experiences with Math instruction.
2. Develop and implement 1 unit of instruction that is clearly aligned to INTASC, IDOE Math Framework and NCTM (EDCI 34400), IDOE World Languages Standards and ACTFL (EDCI 34200), IDOE Science Standards and NSTA (EDCI 346), or IDOE and Social Studies and NCSS (EDCI 34700) pending his/her respective content area for licensure
3.  Provide developmentally appropriate and logical steps of instruction for each lesson designed. 
4.  Include the effective implementation of three (3) or more teaching strategies that embrace culturally relevant pedagogy, diverse learning styles, and diverse learning modalities in an effort to accommodate each learner in his/her micro-teaching classroom and give every child an opportunity to succeed. 
4.  Implement multiple forms of assessments. These assessments will include formative and summative as well as a pre and post analysis. The assessments will be used to measure Classroom Learning Outcomes (CLO) and the effectiveness of Math instruction.
