POL 39200 - Student Government Credit Hours: 3.00. Students elected to Student Government will examine theories of representation, leadership, and deliberative democracy. They will put these skills into practice using parliamentary procedure to represent student interests through the legislative process, organizing campus meetings and engaging with the community. The prerequisite is to be elected to Student Government. Typically offered Fall Spring. Experiential Learning (EXL): Yes
Course Learning Outcomes 1. Define and defend at least four different conceptualizations of political representation.2. Identify key constituencies they represent and the top 3 priorities they need to act on in SGA.3. Describe the inter-workings of the Executive Board, President, House of Representatives and Senate in passing bills in PUC SGA.4. Collaborate on at least one PNC PUC SGA unification activity.5. Participate in a conference on SGA or leadership.6. Compare and contrast groupthink with Carnegie’s ideals of successful communication.7. Represent PUC SGA in other campus and community forums.
