Credit Hours: 3.00. An introduction to the applied aspects of database systems and their associated languages. Topics include database terminology and concepts including data modeling, data dictionaries, redundancy, independence, security, privacy, and integrity. Extensive laboratory exercises are assigned. Typically offered Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate understanding of the general database concepts and terms, advantages of the database approach, and the popular database management systems.
2. Demonstrate understanding of the relational model, normalization, and entity relationship diagrams.
3. Demonstrate understanding of structured query language.
4. Demonstrate the ability to convert an organization’s database requirements into a valid database design and implement in database system.
