Problems of rate- independent and rate-dependent settlement with elasticity theory; brief introduction to critical state soil mechanics; lateral earth pressure. Slope stability and design problem; bearing capacity of shallow foundations. Deformation of foundations. Subsoil exploration and site reconnaissance.
