Credit Hours: 3.00. An introduction to the works of William Shakespeare. Attention to the challenges of poetic compression and Elizabethan English, the dense web of allusiveness in the plays, their staging and self-conscious theatricality, the historical and cultural surroundings, and the extravagant afterlife of Shakespeare around the world.
