About the Program
This program provides students the opportunity to work with peers and talented faculty on research projects that fits their talents and interest. This includes pure and applied mathematics and statistics, and joint projects with peers and colleagues in the engineering and science disciplines.
Degree Requirements
- 120 Credit Hours
- Minimum grade of C required for MA 16300 and MA 20600, all Major Core courses, and Math Major Electives
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 required for graduation
- Certain courses may only be available at one campus location
PNW General Education Core (30-31 Credits Minimum)
Other Required Courses (62-63 Credits)
Math Major Electives (9 Credits): Three (3) courses must be selected from the following approved list of mathematics and statistics courses:
Science Elective (6-8 Credits): Choose any two (2) Science courses, one must have a Lab component
Selected Area Electives (18 Credits): Mathematics majors must choose an 18 credit hour Selected Area (which may be a Minor). At least 3 courses in the Selected Area must be beyond the introductory level (20000 level or above).
Experiential Learning Elective (3 Credits): Students may choose from the Experiential Learning Course List
Approved Electives (24-27 Credits): Students must see their academic advisor for acceptable courses to fulfill this requirement. These courses are used to support career development, strengthen their Selected Area, etc.

Additional Information and Guidelines
Note 1: Students who take ENGL 10800 instead of ENGL 10400 must complete General Education Writing requirement with a Gen Ed approved writing intensive English course.
Note 2: Selected Area Elective - Mathematics majors must choose an 18 credit hour Selected Area (which may be a Minor). At least 3 courses in the Selected Area must be beyond the introductory level (20000 level or above).
Note 3: Approved Electives – See an academic advisor for acceptable courses to fulfill this requirement.
Note 4: Approved List of Mathematics Major Electives – Three courses must be selected from an Approved List of 30000 / 40000 level mathematics and statistics courses. Currently the approved list of Mathematics Major Electives consists of: MA 31500 - Introduction To Abstract Mathematics, MA 44600 - Introduction to Real Analysis, MA 45300 - Elements Of Algebra I, MA 47200 - Introduction To Applied Mathematics, MA 47800 - Computational Mathematics II, or STAT 40001 - Statistical Computing, STAT 43000 - Applied Statistics. MA 31500 is prerequisite for MA 44600 and MA 45300.
