Biotechnology Graduate Certificate

This post-baccalaureate Biotechnology Certificate provides students theoretical as well as laboratory training in molecular biology, genetic engineering, and related technologies which can be applied to a variety of biological fields. The certificate is awarded after successful completion of 6 credits of required courses and a minimum 10 credits of elective courses related to biotechnology. This program offers exceptional opportunities for individuals with a BS degree in a biological science to expand their career opportunities. Courses taken to fulfill the certificate requirements may also be applied toward the MS degree in Biology (up to 12 credit hours).

Plan of Study


A paper-based Plan of Study for the Graduate Biotechnology Certificate Program (GS Form 6) must be completed and approved by the Advisory Committee and the Graduate Coordinator one semester prior to the completion of the certificate program.

Admission Requirements

Baccalaureate degree in science, engineering or related fields, from an accredited institution.

Successful completion of undergraduate courses in cell biology, genetics, organic chemistry, physics and calculus.

A statement of career and education goals.

Minimum English proficiency for applicants whose native language is not English. Please see the Graduate Studies website for methods of submitting proof of English proficiency.

Applicants should submit the statement of career and education goals, and proof of English proficiency (if required) with the online application for Graduate School.  The application link can be found on the PNW home page under Admissions.  Students admitted to the MS in Biology program must submit a separate application for the certificate program.
