About the Program


Apply Now The Literature option is the broadest of our degrees, and involves the careful analysis of texts in their cultural, historical, and formal contexts.  Because the Literature degree involves extensive training in writing and the close attention to the meaning of texts, this option provides a flexible set of skills that can be applied to a wide variety of careers.

Minimum Grade and Grade Point Average (GPA):  Minimum grade of C required for all ENGL and Foreign Language courses; 2.0 GPA

Experiential Learning (EL):  One EL course required.  EL courses are noted by (e) next to the course title.

Additional Information and Guidelines


Students may substitute other program requirements with the approval of their academic advisor.

No cross-listed course may be double-counted.

Undergraduates are limited to two 50000 level courses.

Note 1: SPAN, FR, GER, ASL, or JPNS; students must complete 4 semesters of the same language.

Note 2: Choose one from each category: ENGL 24000 or 24100 (m); 26000 or 26100; 35000 or 35100

Note 3: ENGL 41100 may be taken to satisfy both the Author Studies and the Junior/Senior Seminar requirement only if the course is taken twice, each time featuring a different author.
