The Master of Science in Mathematics is designed to provide students with a course of study that will enhance their knowledge of the fundamental areas of the mathematical sciences. The elective courses allow each student to add the emphasis which most fits with that student’s academic and career plans.

Special Program Requirements
- At most six credits of coursework with “C” grades; cumulative graduate GPA of “B” average must be maintained.
- All courses taken as a temporary (non-degree) student must post grades of “A” or “B.” There is a limit of 12 credit hours taken in non-degree status which may be used toward the degree.
- Plan of Study submitted to Student’s Advisory Committee before the end of nine semester credits; must be approved by the Graduate School before the student registers for the semester in which the degree is to be awarded.

Up to six credits may be chosen from approved courses in other departments.
Transfer of Credit
No more than three courses (9 credit hours) accepted from other institutions. All transfer courses must be approved by the student’s graduate committee and the Mathematics graduate chair. Transfer courses must have a grade of B- or better to be eligible for transfer credit, and may not have been used toward another degree (with the exception of another Purdue Master’s degree).
