EDCI 37101 - Integrated Curriculum In Early Childhood: Creative And Affective Domains Credit Hours: 4.00. This course will present methods focusing on teaching and learning, curriculum, and assessment in the areas of art, play, physical education/movement, music, drama, and social-emotional development. Focus will be on the integrative nature of the early childhood classroom addressing social-emotional development, creativity, and the learning environment. Students are required to complete a field study in a diverse early childhood setting. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite(s): EDPS 27500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- AND EDPS 27700 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- AND EDCI 37200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C (MAY BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Explore developmentally appropriate methods and materials for teaching young children in the creative and affective domains (NAEYC #4).
2. Articulate the importance of addressing children’s social and emotional development (NAEYC #1).
3. Discuss the ways in which the creative and affective domains can be culturally diverse (NAEYC #2a).
4. Understand and evaluate the importance of play as integral to children’s development in all domains (social, emotional, physical and cognitive) (NAEYC #4).
5. Describe the integration of children’s physical development in curriculum planning in early childhood classrooms (NAEYC #1c).
6. Examine and analyze materials, methods, and environments for creating experiences in art, music, movement, drama and physical education in an early childhood classroom (NAEYC #5).
7. Develop plans, activities and assessments for creative experiences based on state and national standards (NAEYC #5c).
